Just 55 seconds before the match ended, Nikita Kucherov netted the decisive goal, shortly after Brandon Hagel had equalized, propelling the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night.
Janis Moser scored once and assisted on two others, while Andrei Vasilevskiy saved 22 shots for the Lightning, who improved their record to 3-0-0. Scorers for Vegas included Brayden McNabb, Pavel Dorofeyev, and Ivan Barbashev, with Adin Hill making 21 saves.
Jack Eichel contributed a pair of assists, increasing his season tally to 10 points in five matches, reaching the milestone faster than any other player in Vegas history. Barbashev initially gave Vegas a 3-2 advantage early in the second period, but Hagel leveled the score for Tampa Bay with 2:22 left in the third period.
Kucherov tied the game at 2 during a two-on-one chance with just 12.8 seconds left in the first period.
A crucial moment in the game saw Hill make three saves while Vegas defenders blocked three shots, preventing Tampa Bay from scoring during a 1:10 5-on-3 power play late in the second period.
Kucherov became the second player in Tampa Bay's history to score six goals in the first three games of a season, equaling Chris Kontos' team record from the Lightning's inaugural 1992-93 season.
Vegas is set to play against Florida on Saturday night, while Tampa Bay will head to Ottawa on the same night.
