On Friday night, the Boston Red Sox emerged victorious over the New York Yankees, winning 5-3 in an exciting matchup at Fenway Park. An early two-run homer by Xander Bogaerts in the first inning put the Red Sox ahead. Despite this, the Yankees responded with consecutive home runs by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton in the third inning.
The score remained even until the eighth inning when Rafael Devers singled, allowing Alex Verdugo to score and break the tie. In the ninth inning, the Red Sox secured two more runs through a sacrifice fly by J.D. Martinez and a Christian Vazquez groundout.
Nick Pivetta was the starting pitcher for the Red Sox, giving up three runs across seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Garrett Whitlock followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, earning the win. Clarke Schmidt was the losing pitcher for the Yankees, having allowed five runs across nine hits over 7 2/3 innings.
This win gave the Red Sox a 3-1 lead in their season series against the Yankees and extended their current winning streak to four games.
