In Los Angeles, Vladislav Gavrikov delivered a pivotal goal merely 25 seconds into overtime to secure a 4-3 triumph for the Kings against the Tampa Bay Lightning, ending Tampa Bay's impressive run of five consecutive victories. This clash took place on Saturday evening.
Steven Stamkos played a crucial role for the Lightning, equalizing the score twice in the dying minutes of the game, notably netting a goal during a 6-on-5 advantage with just under 46 seconds remaining in regulation time. Nevertheless, Gavrikov responded swiftly in overtime, notching his sixth goal of the year by capitalizing on a strategic play that distanced him from Andrei Vasilevskiy.
The victory was also bolstered by goals from Trevor Moore, Mikey Anderson, and Adrian Kempe, with Cam Talbot stopping 21 shots for Los Angeles. Despite Tampa Bay scoring all their goals during power play situations, the Kings' penalty-killing efforts were commendable.
For the Lightning, Brayden Point scored and assisted, showcasing the team's highly effective power play, while Nikita Kucherov continued his scoring momentum, extending his point streak to 13 games thanks to his assist on Stamkos' crucial equalizing goal.
With this victory, the Kings have now won four consecutive home games and are on a successful trajectory towards their third straight playoff appearance, reflecting on eight victories in their last 12 outings. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay, having experienced only one defeat in March, is set to proceed with its five-game journey along the West Coast, facing Anaheim next, whereas Los Angeles gears up for a four-game series in Canada, starting with Vancouver on Monday night.
