Winnipeg Jets News & Updates

Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor led the way with two goals each as the Winnipeg Jets triumphed over the Colorado Avalanche with a scoreline of 7-6 in the opening match of their playoff series. Alongside them, Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey, and Vladislav Namestnikov also found the back of the net, while Connor Hellebuyck's impressive goalkeeping saw him saving 40 shots for the Jets.

Despite goals from Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon, and Artturi Lehkonen, the Avalanche were unable to catch up with the Jets' robust scoring. The Avalanche's Alexandar Georgiev faced a tough night, managing to save only 16 out of the 23 shots aimed at him as they aimed to defend their title as Stanley Cup champions.

The opening period concluded with both teams locked at 3-3, which included a rapid exchange of three goals within 66 seconds. After Nichushkin had put the Avalanche ahead, Morrissey and Lowry quickly evened the score. The goal flurry continued with both teams netting four goals in a span of less than four minutes, with Lowry securing the period's only goal later on.

The match saw more power-play action with Connor and Lehkonen both scoring to push the score to 6-4 at the 6:29 mark, but Connor was quick to notch his second goal shortly after. Makar managed a solo effort for the Avalanche to bring the game to 7-5, and Mittelstadt's last-minute goal sealed the game's fate.

Scheifele added another milestone, hitting his 20th career playoff goal in his 38th game, joining an elite group of active players reaching this mark in the least number of games behind Alex Ovechkin, Jake Guentzel, and Connor McDavid.
