Nathan MacKinnon achieved his seventh career hat trick and accumulated a total of four points, leading the Colorado Avalanche to a triumphant 5-2 win against the Minnesota Wild. This game saw MacKinnon hitting a personal milestone by scoring his 51st goal for the season, a first in his professional career.
Contributions to the Avalanche's win also came from Artturi Lehkonen and Cale Makar. In goal, Alexandar Georgiev made a solid comeback with 20 saves, especially after a tough time in his last two matches where he let in 12 goals.
On the opposing side, the Wild saw goals from Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy, but the loss meant their hopes for the postseason were dashed. In goal for the Wild, Filip Gustavsson managed to stop 27 shots.
The game was momentarily paused when MacKinnon scored his third goal of the night due to the celebratory throwing of hats onto the ice. In addition to his hat trick, MacKinnon earned an assist, pushing his season points to 137 and tying him closely in competition for the Art Ross Trophy with Nikita Kucherov of Tampa Bay.
Cale Makar stood out with his 20th goal of the season and added two assists, setting a record for Avalanche defensemen with his scoring prowess. Jonathan Drouin also had a notable game with three assists, reaching a career-best 56 points for the season.
An incident in the first period saw Devon Toews leaving the game briefly due to an injury after being accidentally hit by Andrew Cogliano's stick, returning after a short period following a review of the incident.
Looking ahead, the Avalanche will be playing at home against Winnipeg on Saturday, while the Wild are set for an away game against Vegas on Friday.
