Even without their leading scorer, the Toronto Maple Leafs managed to keep their playoff dreams alive by securing a 2-1 overtime victory against the Boston Bruins.
Matthew Knies put the puck in the net for the winning goal with an assist from John Tavares, while Joseph Woll stopped 28 shots. Toronto also saw Jake McCabe scoring during the game.
On the Boston side, Trent Frederic managed to score, but it wasn't enough to maintain their series lead. Ilya Lyubushkin, Max Domi, and Mitch Marner provided assists for the Maple Leafs, who had a total of 33 shots on goal compared to Boston's 28.
With Auston Matthews out due to illness, the Maple Leafs maintained an aggressive stance, dominating the first period by outshooting the Bruins 12-2 and winning the majority of the faceoffs.
The intensity of the game led to a confrontation in front of the net, resulting in roughing penalties for Joel Edmundson, Brad Marchand, and Charlie Coyle.
The sixth game of the series is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Toronto.
