Auston Matthews, a key player for the Maple Leafs, will not participate in another game against the Detroit Red Wings at home due to an injury affecting his upper body.
Matthews is currently listed as day-to-day following an injury he sustained in the Maple Leafs' defeat by the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. Although he played more than 22 minutes and provided an assist, Matthews had to leave the game because of the injury.
Craig Berube, the coach of the Maple Leafs, is hopeful that Matthews will potentially return for the home game against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
This season, Matthews has tallied a total of 11 points, comprising 5 goals and 6 assists over the course of 13 games.
During the last season, Matthews led the NHL in terms of goals for the third time across four seasons, achieving a personal record of 69 goals and 38 assists over 81 games.
Since being the first overall pick in the 2016 draft, Matthews has scored 660 points, with 373 goals and 287 assists, throughout his 575 career games for the Maple Leafs.
