Toronto Maple Leafs News & Updates

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews will not participate in the preseason match against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday because of an upper-body injury.

The injury is seen as a precautionary measure, and head coach Craig Berube mentioned that it is not serious. However, he did not specify whether Matthews will be available for Saturday's preseason game in Montreal.

Berube stressed the need to avoid any lingering injuries. Matthews left Tuesday's practice early and also missed Wednesday's session, which influenced the decision.

Although Matthews will miss the preseason game, he has been a standout player in the NHL, leading the league in goal scoring three times over four seasons. In the 2023-24 season, he scored 69 goals and provided 38 assists in 81 games.

The Maple Leafs have four more preseason games left before their regular season opener on October 9 in Montreal.
