In Winnipeg, John Tavares led the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 6-4 win against the Jets, bringing an end to their unbeaten streak at the start of the season.
William Nylander added a goal and two assists, with Matthew Knies and Morgan Rielly also scoring for Toronto. The team had been trying to recover from a three-game losing streak. Max Pacioretty contributed three assists, while Anthony Stolarz made 19 saves.
Kyle Connor achieved a hat trick and an assist for Winnipeg, which extended his point streak to nine games and set a new franchise record. Mark Scheifele contributed a goal and an assist, and Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves.
Winnipeg started the game with eight straight wins, but defensive issues allowed Toronto to take a 4-0 lead in the second period. Still, effective special teams play, including two power-play goals from Connor, kept them competitive.
All of Toronto's goals were scored during even strength play, as their power play faced challenges. The Maple Leafs are set to host Seattle on Thursday, while the Jets will head to Detroit on Wednesday.
