In an exciting matchup at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees emerged victorious over the Boston Red Sox with a 4-2 scoreline. The Yankees took an early advantage by scoring three runs in the first inning. Despite the Red Sox leveling the score in the fourth inning, the Yankees reclaimed their lead in the fifth and maintained it throughout the game.
During the first inning, Giancarlo Stanton launched a two-run home run, and Aaron Judge contributed with an RBI single, giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead. The Red Sox fought back in the fourth inning thanks to a two-run homer by Trevor Story. However, in the fifth inning, Anthony Rizzo's infield hit allowed DJ LeMahieu to score, putting the Yankees back in the lead.
The Yankees bullpen delivered a strong performance in relief of starting pitcher Gerrit Cole. Lucas Luetge, Miguel Castro, and Clarke Schmidt collectively gave up only one hit over the last four innings of the game. Aroldis Chapman closed the game with a flawless ninth inning, securing his 24th save of the season.
This victory granted the Yankees a 4-3 edge in the season series with the Red Sox. The rivals will meet again for another matchup next week in Boston.
