Bobby McMann led the charge with two goals and an assist in Toronto's triumph over Edmonton by a score of 6-3 on Saturday evening.
Auston Matthews secured the net with an empty-netter, marking his 58th goal of the season, the highest in the NHL. Pontus Holmberg also impressed with two goals, William Nylander contributed one goal and one assist, and Matthews added an assist to his tally.
In the goaltender's crease, Ilya Samsonov stopped 31 shots before exiting the game due to an injury with only 3:39 left on the clock. Martin Jones stepped in to make five saves as his replacement.
The victory marked Toronto's second consecutive win, adjusting their record to 40-20-9. Meanwhile, Edmonton, which had been on a strong run with a 9-1-2 record in their last 12 outings, dropped to 42-22-4.
From Edmonton’s lineup, Zach Hyman netted his 49th goal of the season, with Corey Perry and Leon Draisaitl also scoring. Connor McDavid set up three goals with his assists.
The game's opening tally came from McMann in the first period, with Nylander following up with a power-play goal. Holmberg then doubled down with two second-period goals, pushing Toronto ahead 5-0.
In a fightback effort, Hyman and Perry scored for Edmonton in the third period through power-play opportunities, and Draisaitl scored late in the game.
Toronto had to navigate the game without the services of forwards Mitch Marner, Calle Jarnkrok, and Tyler Bertuzzi, as well as defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin, all sidelined either due to injuries or illness.
