Marc Staal concluded his 17-season NHL career and has taken on the role of a development assistant with the New York Rangers. Over 13 seasons with the Rangers, he achieved the sixth-highest number of games played in the team's history.

In his new position, Staal will focus on mentoring defensemen throughout the organization. His retirement comes shortly after his older brother Eric also decided to retire last month.

Throughout his career, Staal amassed 234 points across 1,136 games with four different teams. In the playoffs, he added an additional 20 points in 128 games.

The Rangers have expressed their enthusiasm about Staal's return, recognizing his successful career and looking forward to his impact in his new role.

With Marc's retirement, Jordan, their younger brother, remains captain of the Hurricanes. Their youngest sibling, Jared, had a brief NHL tenure in 2013.
