Boston Bruins' captain Brad Marchand has voiced his concern that Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers avoided disciplinary action for a head hit during the third game. Marchand conceded that the nature of playoff hockey often involves tactics to injure other players.
Marchand explained that injuring opponents is a strategy in the playoffs. Eliminating key players from the opposition can provide a significant advantage. According to him, causing pain is a common goal on the rink during these high-stakes games. He also mentioned that due to the high level of physical play, teams that rely heavily on skill rather than physical strength often do not advance far because they are more susceptible to injuries.
After missing two games due to the injury, Marchand's return in Game 6 could be pivotal for the Bruins. He has been a key player, notching 10 points in 10 games, and his performance matches that of team leader Jake DeBrusk in scoring.
The controversy surrounding Marchand's injury involves an incident with Bennett, where Bennett is said to have punched Marchand in the head. Despite Bennett's denial of these claims, the issue remained contentious.
While Marchand commended Bennett's aggressive gameplay, he acknowledged that Bennett went unpunished for the hit. Marchand mentioned, "He managed to evade penalty for the hit, but I'm not one to complain. Such incidents are part and parcel of playoff hockey, and I've found myself in similar situations in the past."
