Dallas Stars News & Updates

The Dallas Stars have brought veteran forward Matt Duchene on board with a one-year contract worth $3 million. Duchene clinched the game-winning goal in double overtime during the 2023 playoffs, which led to the elimination of the Colorado Avalanche in Round 2.

At 33 years old and after a long postseason, this appears to be Duchene's final major contract. He opted to remain with the Dallas Stars despite other offers, attracted by the prospect of a title run and Texas' tax-free benefits.

In the regular season, Duchene recorded 25 goals and amassed 65 points. His plus-15 rating marked the highest of his career. Over his career, he has played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ottawa Senators, Colorado Avalanche, and Nashville Predators, as well as the Stars.

Additionally, veteran defenseman Matt Dumba has secured a two-year contract with the Stars. Dumba, 29, played last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Minnesota Wild.

Renowned for his defensive prowess, Dumba registered four goals and 12 points last season. He averaged 15:38 of ice time against the Panthers in the playoffs.

In 2023, Dumba opted for a one-year prove-it deal with the Coyotes worth $3.9 million and would likely have received a similar offer this summer. He now joins a Stars defense lineup that recently saw veteran Chris Tanev depart for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Stars have also signed veteran defenseman Brendan Smith to a one-year, $1 million contract and re-signed defenseman Nils Lundkvist to a one-year deal valued at $1.25 million. To strengthen their goaltending depth, they added Casey DeSmith on a three-year contract with an average annual value of $1 million.
