New York Rangers News & Updates

Matt Rempe, a forward for the New York Rangers, has received a four-game suspension for hitting Jonas Siegenthaler in the head with his elbow. During his suspension, Rempe will be absent from matches against the Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New York Islanders. This marks the first suspension in Rempe's NHL career, and as a result, he must forfeit $17,083.32.

This amount will be directed to the players' emergency assistance fund. Siegenthaler was unable to return to the game for the third period following the incident, with Devils coach Travis Green indicating that his condition was concerning. The NHL Department of Player Safety determined that Rempe intentionally raised his arm to Siegenthaler's head after misjudging his timing for the check.

While Rempe, the Rangers, and the NHLPA contended that the hit was inevitable due to Siegenthaler stopping abruptly, the NHL found that Rempe had decisively opted to execute the check, directly targeting Siegenthaler's head with considerable force.
