New York Rangers News & Updates

In his first full NHL season, Matt Rempe of the New York Rangers aims to become a more intelligent fighter and a better hockey player.

Last season, the towering forward made a significant impact by racking up 71 penalty minutes in 17 games, earning enthusiastic cheers from fans who even chanted his name when he was off the ice.

Rempe does not feel that he fought too much in his debut season. He saw value in the opportunities fighting provided, particularly against seasoned fighters like Matt Martin and Nicolas Deslauriers.

As the season progressed, Rempe noticed he fought less often, ultimately not engaging in any fights during the Rangers' 11 playoff games. He interprets this change as a sign of his growth and a better understanding of the need for strategic play.

While he enjoys fighting, Rempe understands the significance of his overall hockey skills. Over the summer, he focused on improving his skating and worked with teammate Chris Kreider on techniques such as forechecking and puck protection.

Rempe's goals include securing a regular role in the Rangers' bottom six and becoming known as a tough competitor. Despite the attention he attracts, he does not see himself as a target but acknowledges his noticeable presence on the ice.
