Auston Matthews, a forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, has been announced as a finalist for the prestigious Lady Byng Trophy. This award celebrates players who demonstrate both exceptional skill on the ice and exemplary sportsmanship and gentlemanly behavior.
Having been close to winning before, with a second-place and a third-place finish in past seasons, Matthews distinguished himself this season by leading the NHL with a total of 69 goals, amassing 107 points, while only accruing 20 penalty minutes.
The list of finalists also includes Elias Pettersson, a forward from the Vancouver Canucks, and Jaccob Slavin, a defenseman from the Carolina Hurricanes. Pettersson is vying to become the first player from the Canucks to clinch the award, whereas Slavin aims to recapture the honor he previously won in 2021.
