Mikael Pyyhtia netted his inaugural NHL goal, driving the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 6-1 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers. Sean Monahan contributed with two goals, and Columbus also saw success from Cole Sillinger, Adam Fantilli, and Mathieu Olivier, who each scored during the game.
Although the Oilers had more shots on goal than Columbus, they couldn't make the most of their five power-play chances. Elvis Merzlikins delivered 31 saves for the Blue Jackets, whereas Stuart Skinner managed 19 saves for the Oilers.
The Oilers faced a setback early in the game when star player Connor McDavid left the ice due to a lower-body injury just 37 seconds after play began. This win marks another instance where Columbus has scored six goals in each of their victories this season.
A tripping penalty on Viktor Arvidsson allowed Columbus a power play, resulting in Monahan's first goal. The Oilers were unable to recover and struggled throughout the game to create offensive opportunities.
The Oilers' effectiveness on power plays fell to 13%, and their penalty-killing capability remains the league's lowest at 60%. Edmonton's next game will be against Nashville on Thursday, while Columbus is set to face the New York Islanders on Wednesday at home.
