Buffalo Sabres player Greenway had a heavy collision with Reilly, leading to Reilly hitting his head on the ice. Initially, Greenway was given a five-minute penalty, but this decision was reversed upon reviewing the video footage.

Reilly remained on the ice for several minutes before being helped to the locker room.

Despite this incident, the Islanders defeated the Sabres with a final score of 4-3.
