Mikko Rantanen achieved a hat trick, propelling the Colorado Avalanche to a close 4-3 win against the St. Louis Blues.
With a goal in each period, Rantanen notched his seventh career hat trick and his first in 2023, boosting his total to 37 goals and earning 14 points over the last six games.
Casey Mittelstadt also found the net for the Avalanche, contributing to their seventh consecutive victory, the longest current winning streak in the NHL. Goalie Justus Annunen made 30 saves during the game.
For the Blues, goals came from Nathan Walker, Alexey Toropchenko, and Brayden Schenn. However, this effort was not enough to extend their four-game winning streak, leaving them four points shy of a wild-card position.
The crucial third goal by Rantanen, with assists from Pavel Buchnevich and Valeri Nichushkin, ultimately sealed the win for the Avalanche.
The second period saw an exchange of goals among Toropchenko, Mittelstadt, and Schenn, maintaining the game’s intensity.
In a decisive moment late in the second period, Rantanen tied the game during a power play by redirecting a shot from Jonathan Drouin into the net.
The scoring was initiated by the Blues with a goal from Walker, but Rantanen swiftly countered with one of his own.
Looking ahead, the Avalanche are set to host Columbus on Friday, while the Blues are scheduled to face Ottawa on Thursday.
