Kirill Kaprizov contributed a goal with the net empty and also assisted on a goal. Filip Gustavsson secured his first shutout this season by making 19 saves, helping the Minnesota Wild achieve a 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
For the Wild, goals were also scored by Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi. Boldy scored the opening goal after receiving a pass from Marcus Johansson. Rossi added a goal during a power play from the high slot.
With 20 seconds left on the clock, Kaprizov clinched the victory by scoring an empty-net goal. Since October 29, the Wild's record stands at 6-1-1.
Sam Montembeault stopped 25 shots for the Canadiens, who have lost eight out of their last nine matches.
The Canadiens continued to struggle offensively with only 19 shots on goal, leading to their first shutout this season.
The Wild played much of the game without forwards Mats Zuccarello and Joel Eriksson Ek, both of whom left after sustaining lower-body injuries in the first period.
A pivotal moment occurred when Jayden Struble received a double minor penalty for high-sticking Jared Spurgeon. Rossi took advantage of the power play with four seconds left, extending the Wild's lead to 2-0.
With Kaprizov assisting on Boldy's goal, he increased his assist total to 20 and his overall points to 30, trailing only Nathan MacKinnon in these categories.
The Canadiens are scheduled to host Columbus on Saturday, while the Wild will be at home against the Stars on the same day.
