Minnesota Wild News & Updates

The Minnesota Wild are planning to secure star forward Kirill Kaprizov with a long-term contract once he becomes eligible on July 1.

The Russian forward, Kaprizov, still has two seasons left on his existing five-year, $45 million agreement, becoming an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 season.

Leipold stated on Tuesday that Kaprizov will be central to their plans, emphasizing the intention to re-sign him. He assured that no one would outbid them in terms of money or contract length, highlighting their commitment to proving their desire to win.

The team will have some financial flexibility after this season.

The buyouts of forward Zach Parise and defenseman Ryan Suter will count $833,333 each per season against the salary cap.

Leipold expressed that July 1 will feel like Christmas, with resources available to reaffirm their commitment to Wild hockey.

Last season, Kaprizov was the leading scorer for the Wild, with 46 goals and 96 points in 75 games.

The player, who was named the NHL rookie of the year with the Calder Trophy in 2020-21, has accumulated a total of 330 points, comprising 160 goals and 170 assists in 278 career games with the Wild.
