Montreal Canadiens' Arber Xhekaj Receives Maximum Fine for Unsportsmanlike Behavior in Preseason Match

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj has been fined the maximum amount of $3,385.42 by the NHL for unsportsmanlike behavior against Toronto Maple Leafs forward Cedric Pare during a preseason match.

During the game, Xhekaj was penalized with a minor penalty and a 10-minute misconduct for instigating, a major penalty for fighting, and was also given a game misconduct. The money from the fine will be directed to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Xhekaj has accumulated 182 penalty minutes in 95 career games with Montreal, including 81 penalty minutes over 44 games in the previous season. In July, he signed a two-year contract worth $2.6 million with the Canadiens.
