In Montreal, Cole Caufield achieved his seventh goal, and Kirby Dach found the net for the first time since 2023, propelling the Montreal Canadiens to a 5-2 win against the St. Louis Blues.
Montreal jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage, but St. Louis countered with goals from Colton Parayko and Jake Neighbours. The Canadiens regained the lead thanks to Alex Newhook and Caufield at the end of the second and start of the third periods. Joel Armia then secured the victory with a goal on an empty net.
The Canadiens' special teams were instrumental, adding a goal during a power play and excelling at penalty killing. St. Louis, despite having more shots on goal, had difficulty generating offensive chances.
A pivotal moment came with eight minutes left, as Montreal not only survived a penalty situation but also managed to create scoring opportunities. Dach, who had missed the entire 2023-2024 season due to an ACL injury, scored his first goal since March 23, 2023.
Looking ahead, the Blues will play against the Senators in Ottawa on Tuesday, while Montreal heads to Philadelphia on Sunday.
