In Seattle, the Montreal Canadiens emerged victorious over the Kraken, halting their eight-game losing streak with a decisive 5-1 win. Alex Newhook was a standout performer, netting two goals. Kaiden Guhle also played exceptionally, earning a goal and two assists to reach a personal best of three points in a single game. Contributions from Nick Suzuki and Mike Matheson further bolstered the team’s score.
Guhle reflected on the triumph, suggesting that a mix of good fortune and effective gameplay played roles in their success. He noted that several shots, including tips and rollers, found their way into the net, marking the game as one where multiple attempts successfully resulted in goals.
Despite facing a higher number of shots from the opposition, at 37 to their 17, the Canadiens managed to tie their season’s record for goals scored in a game. Jordan Eberle managed to score the only goal for Seattle, which was a continuation of a troubling pattern for the Kraken, who’ve been struggling to score throughout their losing streak.
Dave Hakstol, coach of the Kraken, voiced his concern over the team's current form, emphasizing the urgent need for improvement and expressing profound disappointment with their recent results.
Philipp Grubauer was pulled from the Kraken’s goal after allowing four goals from just six shots. Grubauer’s stint included conceding two early goals to the Canadiens, one from Guhle that navigated through players and another that deflected off Newhook. Newhook’s subsequent goal escalated Montreal’s lead to 4-0, prompting a goalie change. Montreal later added to their tally with a short-handed goal by Matheson in the second period. Newhook came close to a hat trick but was denied by the post.
An injury concern arose for the Kraken, with defenseman Ryker Evans having to leave in the first period
