Nathan MacKinnon Named NHL MVP, Connor Bedard Secures Calder Trophy

During the NHL awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Nathan MacKinnon from the Colorado Avalanche took center stage by winning the Hart Memorial Trophy for league MVP and the Ted Lindsay Award for outstanding player. MacKinnon, who led the Avalanche to a Stanley Cup victory two years ago, had been a finalist for both awards in the past but had never won them until now.

Several other significant accolades were also handed out. Connor Bedard from the Chicago Blackhawks won the Calder Memorial Trophy for the best rookie. Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets secured the Vezina Trophy for top goaltender, while Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks took home the James Norris Memorial Trophy for best defenseman.

This season, MacKinnon achieved a career-high of 140 points, including a 35-game point streak at home, second only to Wayne Gretzky. He scored 54 goals and provided 89 assists, surpassing Nikita Kucherov and Connor McDavid for the Hart Trophy and outpacing Kucherov and Auston Matthews for the Lindsay Award.

Connor Bedard, a highly anticipated prospect, led all rookies with 61 points, comprising 22 goals and 39 assists, even though he missed some games due to injury.

Connor Hellebuyck, who previously won the Vezina in 2020, posted a goals-against average of 2.39, a save percentage of .921, and achieved five shutouts this season.

Quinn Hughes earned his first Norris Trophy by leading all defensemen with 92 points, including 75 assists.
