Nathan MacKinnon saw his remarkable 35-game streak of scoring at home come to an end following a 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Rangers.
Even though he didn't manage to score, MacKinnon's streak remains the second longest in NHL history, only trailing behind Wayne Gretzky's 40-game record, showcasing his incredible talent.
Furthermore, the game also concluded MacKinnon's 19-game scoring streak, marking the end of his second streak of the season, an unprecedented accomplishment in the NHL.
The Avalanche's coach, Jared Bednar, mentioned plans to reach out to the NHL because they believe MacKinnon was overlooked for an assist on Toews' third-period goal that equalized the game.
Upon reviewing the footage, it appeared that Rangers' Ryan Lindgren might have been the last to touch the puck before it found the net, which resulted in the goal being attributed to Toews by mistake.
Bednar indicated the team's intention to dispute the official decision, and defenseman Cale Makar voiced his astonishment at MacKinnon not receiving the assist.
In the game, MacKinnon, who played for more than 27 minutes and attempted five shots, did not increase his playtime during the overtime, despite his renowned prowess when short-handed.
