The New Jersey Devils have added experienced defensemen Brett Pesce and Brenden Dillon as the NHL free agency period begins.
Pesce, who formerly played for the Carolina Hurricanes, is anticipated to agree on a six-year contract with an annual value of $5.5 million. Dillon, coming from the Winnipeg Jets, is expected to sign a three-year contract with an average annual value of $4 million.
These acquisitions strengthen the Devils' defensive lineup, which now features young talents like Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec, in addition to seasoned players Dougie Hamilton and Jonas Siegenthaler. The team, led by new coach Sheldon Keefe, will also benefit from a refreshed goaltending duo of Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen.
