New York Islanders News & Updates

Cal Clutterbuck netted two goals, while both Mathew Barzal and Hudson Fasching contributed with a goal and a pair of assists, leading the New York Islanders to break their six-game losing spell with a victory of 6-3 against the Winnipeg Jets this Saturday.

Scoring efforts from Kyle Palmieri and Anders Lee also played a part for the Islanders, who are still chasing a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, with a total of 12 matches remaining for the regular season. In goal, Semyon Varlamov stopped 33 shots.

For Winnipeg, goals came through Vladislav Namestnikov, Mason Appleton, and Cole Perfetti, marking their second consecutive loss. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck was pulled after conceding five goals from 26 shots, giving way to Laurent Brossoit.

Clutterbuck's pair of goals during the initial period set the tone for the Islanders. Following Namestnikov's goal, the Islanders dominated by netting four straight goals. Barzal capped the scoring frenzy with his season's 22nd goal after Fasching pushed the puck towards Hellebuyck, leaving Barzal to finish the job.

In the third period, Nikolaj Ehlers and Perfetti managed to score for the Jets. Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey commented on the Islanders' performance, noting their quicker pace, superior execution, and overall desperation on the ice.

Looking ahead, the Jets are set to play against the Washington Capitals on Sunday, and the Islanders will welcome the New Jersey Devils.
