In Buffalo, the New York Islanders secured a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres, with Bo Horvat and Maxim Tsyplakov each notching a goal and an assist.
The Islanders ended their three-game losing streak with contributions from Kyle Palmieri and Jean-Gabriel Pageau, and Ilya Sorokin making 32 saves in goal.
For the Sabres, goals came from Dylan Cozens, Jason Zucker, and Owen Power, while Devon Levi also made 32 saves for the team.
Cozens initiated the scoring, but Horvat quickly responded. Tsyplakov gave the Islanders the lead, and Palmieri expanded it with a goal during a power play.
Zucker reduced the gap for the Sabres in the third period, but Pageau reinstated the Islanders' two-goal cushion. Power managed a late goal, yet it wasn't enough for Buffalo to stage a comeback.
The Islanders broke their scoring drought with this victory, whereas the Sabres continue to face inconsistencies in their start to the season.
There was a worrying incident when Islanders defenseman Mike Reilly sustained an injury after a hit from Jordan Greenway, resulting in him leaving the ice after an apparent head collision.
Anders Lee added two assists for the Islanders, who will next play against the New York Rangers, while the Sabres are set to face Detroit.
