Forward Simon Holmstrom has agreed to a one-year contract with the New York Islanders.
The team revealed the signing of the 23-year-old Swedish restricted free agent on Tuesday.
Last season, Holmstrom notched 15 goals and 10 assists over 75 games with the Islanders. He led his team and ranked second in the NHL with five short-handed goals and seven short-handed points.
Drafted 23rd overall by the Islanders in the 2019 NHL draft, Holmstrom has accumulated 21 goals and 13 assists in 125 NHL games. In the American Hockey League, playing for the Islanders' affiliate in Connecticut, he has recorded 27 goals and 43 assists in 154 games.
In the SuperElit League, Holmstrom maintained an average of more than a point-per-game over two seasons. He also earned a gold medal with Team Sweden at the 2018 Under-18 World Junior Championships, scoring a goal in the final match against Russia.
