New York Rangers News & Updates

In New York, Mika Zibanejad, Jimmy Vesey, and Vincent Trocheck each found the back of the net during the second period, propelling the New York Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.

The Rangers' goaltender, Igor Shesterkin, was instrumental in the win, recording 25 saves. This victory marked a rebound for the team following a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the top-ranked Winnipeg earlier in the week, and it stands as their fourth triumph in six games.

For the Sharks, Timothy Liljegren and Fabian Zetterlund were the goal scorers in a match that left the team with a record of two wins, three regulation losses, and one overtime loss in their last six outings. Mackenzie Blackwood had a busy night in goal with 32 saves.

Liljegren opened the scoring early in the game, at 2:51 of the first period, in a sequence where the puck deflected off several players before finding the net. Zibanejad then equalized for the Rangers with just over nine minutes remaining in the second period. Vesey's goal followed suit, giving New York the lead with 6:45 left on the clock, and Trocheck extended that lead to 3-1 with 3:39 to go in the period.

In the final moments of the game, Zetterlund narrowed the deficit with a power-play goal, but it proved insufficient for the Sharks to alter the outcome.

Barclay Goodrow, who spent three seasons with the Rangers and was noteworthy for his playoff performance last spring, was warmly applauded by the crowd during the first period when he was spotlighted on the arena's giant screen.
