At their funeral, John and Matthew Gaudreau were honored as dedicated brothers and family men who always put their loved ones first.
Widows Meredith and Madeline Gaudreau spoke of their husbands' lifelong bond. John, 31, and Matthew, 29, were so close that John could not envision life without his brother.
The funeral brought together players, officials, and family members. Attendees included Columbus Blue Jackets teammate Patrik Laine, Montreal Canadiens' Cole Caufield, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, and executive Brian Burke.
In a gesture of remembrance, Caufield will wear the jersey number 13 to honor John Gaudreau. He also offered his sympathies and support to the mourning family.
Meredith Gaudreau expressed her gratitude to her husband's best friends, Sean Monahan and Kevin Hayes, for their significant impact on John's life.
The Gaudreau brothers, who played hockey for the Calgary Flames and Boston College, tragically lost their lives in a car accident just before their sister's wedding.
The accident brought serious charges against the driver involved, including reckless and drunk driving. Madeline Gaudreau emphasized the importance of avoiding drinking and driving to prevent such tragedies.
The legacy of the Gaudreau brothers is celebrated by their loved ones and fans both on social media and in their hearts. Their sister, Katie, recounted treasured family memories and expressed her deep yearning to share her love with them once more.
