The Toronto Maple Leafs have named Craig Berube as their latest head coach.
The team let go of Sheldon Keefe following a disappointing performance in the playoffs, which led General Manager Brad Treliving to seek a fresh perspective for guiding the team forward.
Before joining the Leafs, Berube had experience in the NHL, including leading Philadelphia to the playoffs until a subsequent drop in performance caused his exit. He also served as a coach for St. Louis' AHL team and later as an assistant coach for the Blues under Mike Yeo.
Following Yeo's firing, Berube was promoted to interim head coach, where he led the team to an impressive Stanley Cup win, becoming one of the only interim coaches to do so.
After this victory, Berube was awarded a three-year deal with St. Louis, which was later extended by another three years in 2022. Yet, a downturn in the team's fortunes saw him released in December 2023.
At 58, Berube brings to the Leafs a coaching record of 281-190-72 from his time in the NHL. As a player, he had a 17-year career, including a stint with the Leafs, where he played 40 games, scoring 5 goals and amassing 12 points.
