The NHL has removed the prohibitions on hiring three former Chicago Blackhawks executives who were part of a sexual assault investigation.
NHL teams can now interview Stan Bowman, Al MacIsaac, and Joel Quenneville for job openings. However, these teams cannot actually hire them until July 10th due to their associations with the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup wins.
The executives resigned in October 2021 following an investigation that found they neglected to address a sexual assault allegation made in 2010, which led to Quenneville also stepping down from his position with the Florida Panthers.
The investigation concluded that Blackhawks officials disregarded the allegations to protect their chances of winning the championship.
While the NHL never suspended these executives, Commissioner Gary Bettman mentioned they could rejoin the league under certain conditions. These conditions, involving expressing remorse and undergoing awareness training, have now been fulfilled.
Bowman's reinstatement has led to rumors about him potentially becoming the general manager for the Edmonton Oilers. Meanwhile, the Columbus Blue Jackets are the only team currently with a coaching vacancy.
