Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024

Montreal Canadiens News & Updates

During his eagerly awaited debut in Montreal, Patrik Laine netted a power play goal in the second period, initiating the scoring against the New York Islanders. Nick Suzuki clinched an overtime win for the Canadiens at 2:39 by capitalizing on his own rebound.

Anders Lee found the net for New York, but the Islanders suffered their fourth defeat in five games. Sam Montembeault blocked 30 shots for Montreal, and Ilya Sorokin made 25 saves for the Islanders.

After being sidelined for nearly a year due to a left knee sprain, Laine made an impressive comeback, playing on the Canadiens' second line and leading their power-play team.

In a critical play, Laine turned and sent a shot past Sorokin, earning enthusiastic support from his teammates.

Laine had previously played his last regular-season game 355 days ago when he broke his clavicle against Toronto. Since then, he has focused on his mental well-being and was given clearance to return to the game in July.

Looking ahead, the Canadiens will face the Nashville Predators at home on Thursday, while the Islanders are set to host the Seattle Kraken.
