After six seasons in the NHL, veteran defenseman Chris Wideman has decided to retire due to a persistent back injury.
At 34 years old, Wideman last appeared for the Montreal Canadiens in the 2022-23 season, where he accumulated six assists and reached a career-high of 81 penalty minutes over the course of 46 games.
Throughout his career, Wideman represented the Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, and Montreal Canadiens, amassing a total of 78 points (20 goals and 58 assists) in 291 games.
Wideman has expressed his appreciation for the chance to play in the NHL and has indicated a desire to continue being involved in the sport in some manner.
