Valeri Nichushkin played a decisive role for Colorado, scoring both the only goal in the shootout and the single goal in regulation play, leading them to a 2-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. Alexandar Georgiev made 23 saves, including five during the shootout, while Pavel Dorofeyev had initially put Vegas on the scoreboard before Nichushkin leveled the score.
During their five-game road trip, Vegas had secured victories in three matches before being defeated by Colorado. The Avalanche are facing several injury challenges, with Jonathan Drouin sidelined and Chase Bradley making his NHL debut.
A key moment occurred with just 7.5 seconds left in regulation when Hill stopped a close-range shot from Nichushkin, pushing the game into overtime. Following a strong start, Vegas saw their shot attempts diminish considerably, recording only nine shots after the first period in regulation and overtime, without any attempts in the extra period.
Vegas will return home to face Winnipeg in their next game, while Colorado is set to travel to Dallas to begin a back-to-back series.
