Washington Capitals News & Updates

Following a dangerous collision into the boards, Washington Capitals' Nick Jensen managed to avoid being hospitalized on Saturday. Spencer Carbery, the team's coach, confirmed that Jensen was fully conscious, could move all his limbs, and was alert after being hit by Michael Eyssimont of Tampa Bay.

The incident was described by Carbery as terrifying, yet there was a sense of relief upon witnessing Jensen's recovery signs. Despite the joy over the Capitals' win against the Lightning, a win crucial for their playoff aspirations, the team's concern was predominantly for Jensen. Nic Dowd, a teammate and close friend of Jensen, stood up for him by engaging in a fight with Eyssimont following the concerning incident.

After the collision, Jensen was seen lying still on the ice, leading to a stoppage of play for nearly a minute and a half in the first period. The incident did not result in a penalty, as decided by referee Frederick L'Ecuyer, a decision that was met with dissatisfaction from the audience.

The injury to Jensen poses an additional challenge to the Capitals' defense, which was already facing difficulties due to Rasmus Sandin's absence for the remainder of the season. Goalie Charlie Lindgren commended the resolve of his teammates to rise to the occasion in light of Jensen's injury, stating their determination to perform well as a tribute to him.
