Colorado Avalanche News & Updates

Nikolai Kovalenko, the offspring of ex-NHL star Andrei Kovalenko, made his first appearance in the NHL for the Colorado Avalanche during the fourth game against the Winnipeg Jets on a recent Sunday.

This young 24-year-old winger, who was selected by the Avalanche back in 2018, had previously honed his skills in the KHL playing for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, where he notably tallied 21 goals during the 2022-23 season.

With Kovalenko stepping into the roster, the Avalanche has bolstered its lineup, a team that has been leaning on high draft selections for its achievements. Lately, the franchise has faced challenges in cultivating dependable talent outside of the initial draft round.

During his initial outing in the NHL, Kovalenko took to the ice on the right wing, positioned alongside teammates Ross Colton and Miles Wood.
