Edmonton Oilers News & Updates

The Edmonton Oilers, powered by Leon Draisaitl's duo of goals, clinched a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings during Game 5 of their opening playoff round. This victory marked the Oilers' continuous success against the Kings, achieving their first round win for the third year in a row, a feat not accomplished since the early '90s.

Zach Hyman and Evander Kane also scored for the Oilers, while Evan Bouchard assisted on three occasions. Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each added two assists to the game, with McDavid leading the playoffs scoring with 12 points, courtesy of 11 assists.

Goalie Stuart Skinner turned away 18 shots for the Oilers. On the opposing side, David Rittich saved 22 shots for the Kings. For Los Angeles, goals came from Adrian Kempe, Alex Laferriere, and Blake Lizotte.

The Oilers managed a comeback from a 2-1 deficit by netting three goals, with Draisaitl's crucial power-play goal and another score shortly after a penalty giving them a 4-2 lead.

In a late-game attempt to turn the tide, the Kings removed their goalie, leading to Kempe's goal that cut the lead down to a single goal. Nonetheless, a late penalty on Phillip Danault granted the Oilers a power-play opportunity, securing their victory and ending the Kings' playoff journey.

With this win, the Oilers move forward to the second playoff round, awaiting the outcome of the Vancouver Canucks-Nashville Predators series. The season concludes for the Kings with a notable power-play conversion rate of 9-for-19, while the Oilers showcased their prowess with a 1-for-4 rate in the series.
