Washington Capitals News & Updates

The Washington Capitals, in the race for a place in the Eastern Conference playoffs, will be without seasoned forward T.J. Oshie for their upcoming match against the Buffalo Sabres.

Capitals' coach Spencer Carbery confirmed Oshie's absence but did not disclose the reason behind it.

At 37 years old, Oshie has recently faced challenges with an upper-body injury and did not participate in Monday's practice for maintenance purposes. Throughout 47 games this season, he has scored 11 goals and contributed a total of 22 points.

Throughout his career, spanning 16 seasons with the St. Louis Blues and the Capitals, Oshie has scored 301 goals and made 391 assists across 1,005 games. He was the 24th overall pick by the Blues in the 2005 draft.

With a record of 36 wins, 27 losses, and 10 overtime losses, accumulating 82 points, the Capitals are currently securing the second wild-card position in the Eastern Conference. They are tied with the Detroit Red Wings but have two fewer games played. Moreover, they are just one point behind the Philadelphia Flyers in the Metropolitan Division, who have 36 wins, 29 losses, and 11 overtime losses, totaling 83 points.

Normally seen on the top line alongside Alex Ovechkin and Connor McMichael, Oshie's absence will lead to Nicolas Aube-Kubel stepping in to fill his position.

Additionally, the Capitals will see the return of defenseman Rasmus Sandin in their lineup after he sat out the previous game due to a lower-body injury. Sandin is set to partner with Nick Jensen on the second defensive pairing.
