Oskar Sundqvist, a forward for the St. Louis Blues, will not be able to play for the rest of the season owing to a right knee ACL tear.
The incident leading to Sundqvist's injury occurred when he was hit into the boards by Brayden McNabb, a defenseman for the Vegas Golden Knights, during a game on Monday. Following the hit, Sundqvist needed help to get off the ice and was unable to continue playing.
The team has announced that Sundqvist is scheduled for surgery and will have his condition reassessed in six months.
Drew Bannister, the Blues' interim coach, expressed disappointment over the injury, acknowledging the significant gap Sundqvist's absence will create in the team.
This season, Sundqvist, who is 30 years old, has achieved 21 points.
Throughout his career, the two-time Stanley Cup champion has amassed a total of 144 points.
