Alex Ovechkin, a well-known ice hockey player, has reached another significant milestone by becoming the 60th player in NHL history to achieve 700 career assists. In the Washington Capitals' 4-2 win against the Vegas Golden Knights, he assisted on Tom Wilson's power-play goal and later set up a goal for Aliaksei Protas.
Ovechkin's outstanding performance earned praise from his coach, Spencer Carbery, who highlighted his skillful execution. A video montage celebrating his achievement was shown on the arena's video boards, and the audience gave him a standing ovation.
Ovechkin stands second to Wayne Gretzky on the career goal-scoring list with 853 goals, needing only 42 more to break Gretzky's record. He belongs to an exclusive group of six players who have achieved both 700 goals and 700 assists, attributing his success to two decades in the league.
In a recent game, Ovechkin made a positional change, playing some right wing for the first time after primarily playing on the left side throughout his career. He acknowledged the initial challenge of adjusting but expressed his readiness to make changes for the team's advantage.
