Calgary Flames News & Updates

Alex Ovechkin has once again made history by scoring 20 goals in 19 consecutive seasons, propelling the Washington Capitals to a decisive 5-2 win against the Calgary Flames.

In the game's second period, Ovechkin found the back of the net twice during power plays, increasing his total career goals to 843 and maintaining his position as the second-highest goal scorer in history, trailing only behind Wayne Gretzky.

The victory also saw contributions from Dylan Strome, Hendrix Lapierre, and Tom Wilson, helping the Capitals secure the second wild-card position in the Eastern Conference.

On the Flames' side, Kevin Rooney and MacKenzie Weegar managed to score, but it wasn't enough to avoid the team's third loss in their last four outings.

Charlie Lindgren of the Capitals blocked 34 shots, whereas Dustin Wolf of the Flames conceded four goals from 32 shots.

Ovechkin's successful goals resulted from teamwork with Max Pacioretty and John Carlson who assisted in those moments.

Spencer Carbery, the Capitals' coach, lauded Ovechkin for his remarkable consistency and physical resilience over the years.

The effectiveness of the Capitals' power play has seen a significant improvement, demonstrated by their 2-for-3 performance against Calgary, now ranking them third in the NHL over the recent couple of months.

Despite narrowing the score gap to two, the Flames were unable to mount a comeback against Washington.

Calgary anticipates the return of Jacob Markstrom to the game roster this coming weekend.

Looking ahead, the Capitals are set to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, as they aim to further their ambitions for the playoffs.
