Washington Capitals News & Updates

Washington Capitals' head coach Spencer Carbery has voiced his worries regarding the performance of team captain Alex Ovechkin during the first round of the playoff games against the New York Rangers.

Ovechkin has not scored any points so far and was responsible for a turnover that resulted in a goal for the Rangers during the second game. Carbery mentioned that Ovechkin appears to be slightly off his usual game and is facing difficulties.

New York Rangers' head coach Peter Laviolette recognized Ovechkin's impactful presence on the ice and mentioned their focused defensive efforts on him.

Even with the slow beginning, Carbery is still hopeful about Ovechkin finding his form again as the series progresses.

The second game saw a high number of penalties and players voiced their unhappiness towards what they saw as erratic decisions by the referees.

A contentious moment arose when Artemi Panarin's hit on T.J. Oshie was scrutinized for possibly being an illegal check to the head. However, the officials decided against imposing a penalty.

Coach Spencer Carbery criticized this ruling, especially since Oshie had to be evaluated by concussion spotters following the incident.
