Washington Capitals News & Updates

Alex Ovechkin's recent goal against the Predators contributed to the Capitals' ongoing success and handed Nashville yet another loss, something expected by those aware of his skills.

The Predators' coach, Andrew Brunette, who once played in the NHL alongside Ovechkin, praised his remarkable scoring talent. He highlighted Ovechkin’s shot as exceptional and recognized him as potentially the greatest goal scorer ever.

At 39, Ovechkin is closing in on Jaromir Jagr's record for game-winning goals. His 130th such goal helped the Capitals achieve a 3-2 triumph, intensifying the Predators' current struggle, with nine losses in their last 13 games.

Steven Stamkos from the Predators expressed admiration for Ovechkin's ongoing achievements, noting how impressive his performance is at this stage of his career. Currently boasting six goals in his last five games, Ovechkin's career tally stands at 861, just 34 shy of Wayne Gretzky's record.

Ovechkin has now become only the third player over 39 to score in five consecutive games, joining the ranks of Johnny Bucyk and Brett Hull.

Stamkos described Ovechkin as a once-in-a-generation goal scorer and acknowledged his prolific career achievements in the challenging NHL environment.

In the Capitals' distinctive black "Screaming Eagle" jersey, Ovechkin continued his impressive scoring streak, now perfect in eight appearances with this uniform. Despite his stellar statistics, he expressed a particular fondness for the jersey and the fans’ excitement around it.

Having assisted on Aliaksei Protas' goal earlier, Ovechkin has accumulated eight goals and eight assists this season. He emphasized his enjoyment of the game, particularly when the team is winning and creating opportunities to score.
