Kyle Palmieri and Bo Horvat were instrumental in the New York Islanders' dominant 6-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks, solidifying their position in the playoffs.
The game was essentially decided in the first period, with Palmieri notching his 20th goal of the year, Cizikas scoring the opener, and Nelson contributing a power play goal, which collectively put the Islanders in the driver’s seat. Horvat continued his impressive goal-scoring run, making it three consecutive games, while Engvall and Clutterbuck also hit the back of the net.
Anaheim's goaltender Lucas Dostal struggled against the Islanders' aggressive offensive, conceding six goals. On the other end, Semyon Varlamov's 22 saves ensured the Ducks suffered their third defeat in their last four attempts, having been outscored 12-3 across their previous two matches.
This match also highlighted Palmieri's first season reaching the 20-goal mark since the 2019-20 season, with his goal being set up by Reilly. Horvat's continued scoring streak, alongside standout performances from Barzal, Cizikas, Engvall, and Clutterbuck, exemplified the depth of talent within the Islanders' lineup.
The Islanders are next set to play against the Los Angeles Kings, while the Ducks look to recover during a four-game road stretch, beginning with a match against the Chicago Blackhawks.
