In Philadelphia, Sam Reinhart netted two goals to achieve a season total of 50 goals, and Brandon Montour provided three assists as the Florida Panthers overcame the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1, putting an end to their losing streak of four games.
Vladimir Tarasenko and Carter Verhaeghe each put the puck in the net for the Panthers, assisting in forging a tie with Boston for the premier position in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. A face-off at home against the Bruins awaits Florida on Tuesday evening.
Bobby Brink managed to score for the Flyers, who were engaging in their second consecutive game. Despite the defeat, Coach John Tortorella spoke positively about the team's effort.
Anthony Stolarz was credited with 32 saves for the Panthers, contrasting with Felix Sandstrom of Philadelphia, who conceded three goals from 14 shots against him. Panthers coach Paul Maurice heralded Stolarz's pivotal role in the game.
The absence of starting goaltender Carter Hart due to legal issues is a notable difficulty for the Flyers. Upon being queried about Sandstrom’s performance, coach Tortorella ended his press appearance abruptly.
Heading into the final period, the Panthers led 2-0, courtesy of Reinhart’s initial period goal and a second-period power-play goal from Tarasenko. Stolarz played a key role in the second period, keeping the scoreline intact even after Sean Couturier nearly scored.
With an empty-net goal towards the end of the third period, Reinhart celebrated hitting the 50-goal mark for the season, placing him third in the NHL's goal-scoring rankings, just behind Auston Matthews.
Looking ahead, the Panthers are set to welcome the Bruins on Tuesday night, while the Flyers are off to compete against the Rangers.
