During the second period of their 3-2 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers had to leave the game due to an injury affecting his upper body. Bennett, who had found the net in Game 2, seemed to be in discomfort with his wrist as he made his way off the ice.
The team's coach, Paul Maurice, mentioned that they would be evaluating Bennett's injury further on Wednesday.
The decisive goal of the game was scored by Vladimir Tarasenko, with Carter Verhaeghe providing the assist. Before Tarasenko's critical goal, Matthew Tkachuk, Anton Lundell, and Verhaeghe played vital roles in setting up the play, culminating in Verhaeghe sealing the win.
Bennett was the first to score for his team during the initial period, thanks to assists from Tkachuk and Verhaeghe. Before being sidelined by his injury, he managed to assist on Tarasenko's goal. His total playtime was 7:42 before he had to exit the game.
Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, a teammate of Bennett, contributed significantly to the Panthers' success by making 21 saves. This effort was a step toward the Panthers beating their in-state rivals in the postseason for the first time after three attempts.
